Ian is a retired architect who has been designing low energy buildings since the 1970s, including his studio office in the grounds of his home. The design is driven by a desire for simplicity and a tempered environment, insulation values are well in excess of those required when the building was constructed in 1990, and he recently upgraded by installing a ground source heat pump.
