The Climate Emergency
In February 2019 Cambridge City Council became one of the first local authorities in the UK to declare a climate emergency, calling for the creation of a zero-carbon city and country by 2030.
The declaration laid down a challenge for government, business and regulators that gives Cambridge the opportunity to become a global influencer. To lead the way and show how a city of historic buildings and modern aspirations can create the zero carbon homes it needs to meet the challenge of our climate emergency.
But how do we get there? Is it possible for all our homes in Cambridge to be zero-carbon? If not, what is possible and what do we need to do to make it happen?
Our tenth anniversary celebration gives us the opportunity to offer an open invitation for a city-wide conversation between people who wish to change the housing landscape. To create the zero-carbon homes we need to meet the challenge of our climate emergency and become the influencer city we should be.
Drawing from our experience as house-builders, architects, renovators, planners, policy makers, engineers, campaigners, environmentalists, advocates and homeowners, what can we do to help everyone move forward? Through this one-off event let’s spark some creative fires and lasting partnerships that will really help us to get to where we need to be.
