A second chance to join this free interactive online tour to learn about how the hosts overcame the key challenges faced during this renovation and extension project, as well as what they would do differently if they were to undertake such a project again. Also, the benefits and weaknesses of different types of insulation will be discussed.
Hosts Antony and Kathryn renovated their 1930s semi-detached house and added a loft extension, in an effort to increase the living space for their growing family while reducing the building’s carbon footprint and lowering their energy bills. The house had originally experienced a damp problem, however the installation of a mechanical ventilation heat recovery system has addressed this condensation issue. This eco-renovation has resulted in a more spacious, notably warmer home with reduced energy consumption.
Key features of this home:
- External and internal (wood fibre) wall insulation, draught-proofing and loft insulation.
- Mechanical Ventilation and Heat Recovery (MVHR) system.
- Condensing combi boiler.
- Water efficiency measures: low volume flush toilets, showers fitted with flow restrictors.
